Where would the PPBSO be without volunteers?

Volunteers are critical to the functioning of the PPBSO. Without them, rules would not be drafted, judges would not be trained and accredited, workshops would not take place, social media updates and announcements would not appear, Knockout and other contests would not happen and bills would not get paid, and most importantly summer Highland Game contests would not be run. And, that is just scratching the surface. The truth is, without volunteers, the PPBSO cannot operate and the many functions and events that pipers, drummers and pipe bands rely on taking place will not happen.

The PPBSO is fortunate over the years to have had so many willing, motivated and capable volunteers come forward and pitch in in so many ways to help run branches, sit on committees and help the parent body operate. What they have built is truly impressive.
You might be interested to know that the parent body has a number of committees in place that work through the off-season to prepare for the next season, and for the years ahead. Governance review rules and policies to anticipate issues and help keep things in order; the Music Committee covers off grading, judge training and accrediting, and works with the Governance Committee to make sure the rules make sense. The recently created Youth Development Committee is working to build youth involvement and education in our arts as the youngsters are the future of our community, and the Communications Committee is active keeping us informed of what's new, what's up, when and where. All these committees have openings for members to join.

The Parent Body is governed by the Board of Directors who meets monthly from September to May to oversee the Society's finances, Highland Games contract negotiations, approve recommendations from the committees, keep in contact with the Branches and evaluate initiatives of the Society for effectiveness. The Board, through the President, reports to the membership every year at the Annual General Meeting.
We are seeking volunteer candidates to serve in a variety of capacities and are eager to hear from members who would like to give something back to an organization that over the years has built something as impressive as a series of well-run solo and band contests at 8 Highland Games across southern Ontario, and a host of other events during the off-season to motivate and stimulate on-going engagement and improvement. Out of a membership that has grown to over 1,200, we know there are talented and motivated individuals who can make a difference. Please consider helping us help the community. Don't hesitate to contact me to discuss how we can work together.
