Certified Judges

Adjudicators with PPBSO accreditation maintain their active status by attending at least one recognized professional development seminar every two years and make themselves available to adjudicate PPBSO competitions each year.

Below there is a list of judges who have maintained their active status for 2021. Accredited adjudicators return to the active list by fulfilling professional development and availability requirements.

Become Certified

WHO?

The minimum prerequisite to becoming a PPBSO judge will be based on the candidate’s playing

experience and competitive success at the Grade 1 pipe band, or professional solo level (as applicable).

This requirement is essential to ensure that the pipe band or solo community have respect for the

knowledge, experience, and abilities of our judging panel.

The PPBSO is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity. All candidates will be treated fairly and will not be discriminated against on grounds of race, colour, nationality or gender.

Paths

PPBSO members who meet the prerequisites can choose to follow one specific path or multiple paths:

• B-12 Solo Piping Judge

• B-11 Pipe Band Judge (piping, snare drumming, and mid-section)

• B-13 Piobaireachd Judge

• B-14 Solo Drumming Judge (snare drumming and bass and tenor drumming)

Certified PPBSO Pipe Band judges (piping, snare drumming and mid-section) who meet the prerequisites in B-11.4 (a) or (b) can apply to become a PPBSO Ensemble Judge.

The Process

Complete the following process to become a PPBSO judge:

Step 1:

Complete the following form to outline your performance portfolio by October 31st and send it to  admin@ppbso.org

Members who meet the prerequisites, will be invited to participate in a PPBSO Judges Common Training Session.

Step 2:

Those members who complete the PPBSO Judges Common Training Session will be eligible to participate in one of the PPBSO Judges Certification Training Sessions.

Step 3:

Those members who complete the PPBSO Judges Certification Training Sessions, will be required to complete at least one shadow (practice) judging session.

Upon successful completion The Music Committee will recommend to the PPBSO Board to certify the member as a “B” or “A” grade PPBSO judge - based on their qualifications and competitive experience.
