Based on comments from competitors about the lack of detailed feedback on scoresheets, the music committee was asked to consider if there was a better, more detailed way of giving feedback to competitors. Often the only feedback given was the ticking of a box. It should also be noted that the judges score sheets in use today have not changed much in over twenty years.
In reviewing the current PPBSO solo score sheets, the music committee opted to remove the quadrant tick boxes that were at the bottom of the sheet while at the same time enhancing the comments section for judges to provide more specific comments about a competitor’s tone, musicality and technique for pipers and execution, rhythm and sound for drumming.
The rationale for this change was that having the judges provide a more in-depth narrative of each category, the competitor should have a better understanding of what they did well and what needs improvement. This level of feedback was not always the case with the tick boxes.
The PPBSO music committee is comprised of piping and drumming experts from within the membership. Their role is to oversee areas of governance in relation to music, grading, judges qualifications and rules in relation to competition. The music committee make recommendations to the Board relevant to these areas of responsibility.
The music committee encourages feedback and suggestions from competitors and continually considers ways of improving competitions for our members. In an effort for continuous improvement, the music committee will monitor any feedback received in regards to these latest changes.
