Special Master Class Piobaireachd Workshop May 10 in Hamilton

The Pipers’ & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) is pleased to announce a special Master Class Piobaireachd Workshop to be held on Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the historic John Foote Armouries in Hamilton, Ontario.

This unique educational event will take place in the storied band room of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Pipes and Drums, offering participants a rare opportunity to learn within one of Canada’s most distinguished military and musical settings. The workshop will be led by internationally acclaimed piper Robert Wallace, President of The Piobaireachd Society and a foremost authority on ceòl mòr (piobaireachd) in the world today.

Designed for serious students of the great Highland bagpipe, this master class will focus on the interpretation, technique, and musicality of piobaireachd, the classical music of the instrument. While all enthusiasts of piobaireachd are welcome to attend, participants should note that the instructional emphasis will be geared toward pipers performing at the professional and senior amateur levels.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for Ontario pipers to work closely with one of the most respected figures in the global piping community,” said PPBSO president, Malkie Bow,  “Robert Wallace brings decades of performance, judging, and teaching experience, and his insight into the tradition and art of piobaireachd is second to none.”

The workshop is proudly sponsored by The Pipers’ & Pipe Band Society of Ontario as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering musical excellence and education within the piping community. Events such as this master class are central to the Society’s mission of supporting pipers at all stages of their development while preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Highland piping.

Admission to the session is free and open to all current members of the PPBSO. Due to the specialized nature of the workshop and the importance of maintaining an effective learning environment, space may be limited.
