The Hamilton Highland Gathering is a unique inner-city Piping & Drumming competition featuring both solo and band contests. This event is also the official kick-off to the PPBSO’s competition season, taking place on the first Saturday in June.

The Scottish Rite Club Hamilton, Ontario

The event takes place at the Scottish Rite Club, located on Queen Street South, and is one of Hamilton’s most recognizable historic landmarks. Beyond its stunning architecture and rich history, the property is also home to beautifully maintained lawns that create the perfect setting for the Hamilton Highland Gathering. “The Scottish Rite” is a branch of Freemasonry that expands upon the teachings of the first three Masonic degrees and serves as the home of the Canadian Supreme Council.

Spectators can enjoy solo competitions during the morning while exploring the vendor and merchandise tents. In the afternoon, attendees can enjoy a delicious BBQ and celebrate the spirit of Scottish music and culture at the “Open Stage”. This exciting mid-day showcase invites musicians of all ages and skill levels to take the stage, whether they play the bagpipes, drums, fiddle, or other traditional instruments, to celebrate the rich traditions of Scottish heritage. Pre-registration is required for the Open Stage. The afternoon continues with exciting band competitions featuring bands from across Ontario.

Following the competition, a parade leads competitors and spectators to the Hess Village, Hamilton’s iconic entertainment district known for its restaurants, patios, music venues, and historic charm.

The bands proudly fill Hess Street South with the sound of massed bands performances, followed by the awards ceremony featuring 3 championship trophies: the Donald Pringle Memorial Cup (Grade 3), the Hamilton Police Service Bowl (Grade 4), and the Scottish Rite of Hamilton Bowl (Grade 5).

The Hamilton Highland Gathering continues to grow as one of Ontario’s most unique, inner-city piping and drumming events, bringing together competition, community spirit, and Scottish culture in the heart of downtown Hamilton. With music echoing through historic streets, lively performances throughout the day, and a welcoming atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.
