Maxville Games 1989: Grade 1 Pipe Band Medleys

Here’s another offering from the History & Archives committee of The Pipers’ & Pipe Band Society of Ontario: the grade 1 pipe band event at the Saturday, August 5, 1989 in Maxville, Ontario. This video is the medley section (unfortunately, we do not have the video from the March, Strathspey & Reel section of the grade 1 event).

Five bands played with the overall final result that year:

1. 78th Fraser Highlanders

2. Toronto & District Caledonia

3. Clan MacFarlane

4. Scotsaire

5. Toronto Police

Drumming: 78th / Dress & Deportment: 78th

Interested viewers will get a great sense of the atmosphere of the day with lots of shots of well-known figures from our past and present - and many not-so-well-known!

You will see the judges for this event also highlighted. They were: Bob Worrall, Willie Connell (piping), John Kerr (drumming) and Reay Mackay (ensemble).

The closing audible “hot mic” words of the video, courtesy of the late George Forgan (Drum Major and long-time PPBSO president), might be for the ages.
