AGM drumming recommendations implemented


Attendees at the 2022 PPBSO AGM will recall a raft of motions related to solo drumming competitions. These were referred to the Music Committee and subsequently to the Board of Directors for approval. Nearly all recommendations were accepted. Below are the new rules. All are reflected on in the 2023 Rule Book. A link to the rule book is also on our Master Entry Form.


Professional Snare H/J


OLD

C-15.2.2

H/J. A professional competitor shall submit two (2) sets, each comprised of a Hornpipe and a Jig, with a minimum of four parts each.


NEW

C-15.2.2

H/J. A professional competitor to submit and play (1) selection of tunes, each comprised of (2) Hornpipes (the first being a dot cut/pointed Hornpipe followed by a dot cut/pointed or straight/round Hornpipe) and (2) Jigs, with a minimum of four parts each.


Professional Snare MSR

M/S/R. A professional competitor shall submit two (2) sets, each comprised of a 2/4 March, a Strathspey and a Reel, with a minimum of four parts each.


NEW

C-15.2.1

M/S/R. A professional competitor shall submit two (2) sets, each comprised of a 2/4 March, a Strathspey and a Reel, with a minimum of four parts each. The judge of the event will draw the competitors MSR selection prior to the competitors’ play.


Grade 1 Snare MSR

C-15.3.1

M/S/R. A Grade 1 Amateur competitor shall submit two (2) sets, each comprised of a 2/4 March, a Strathspey and a Reel, with a minimum of four parts each.

M/S/R. A Grade 1 Amateur competitor shall submit two (2) sets, each comprised of a 2/4 March, a Strathspey and a Reel, with a minimum of four parts each. The judge of the event will draw the competitors MSR selection prior to the competitors’ play.


Novice Practice Pad Event


General. A Novice Practice Pad participant is required to play 1 of the following:

New Massed Band Cadence in the <me signature 2/4 - two parts

New Massed Band Cadence in the <me signature 3/4 - two parts

New Massed Band Cadence in the <me signature 4/4 - two parts


It should be noted that participants in this event are not required to wear highland dress as per B - 2.2


Adult/Youth for Grade 5 Snare


Grade 5 solo snare drumming be split into Youth/ Adult Categories as follows:

Youth competitors must be under 18 years of age, on November 1, in the calendar year preceding the competition season in Ontario. Individuals that are 18 years of age or older on November 1, in the calendar year preceding the competition season in Ontario will be considered adults.


Accompaniment


Each Snare Drumming competitor shall provide at least one (and no more than two) piper for accompaniment. In lieu of a piper, amateur competitors may supply their own recording for accompaniment. In the case of failure of the equipment that plays the piper recording before or during the performance, the competitor will be required to play as if the equipment providing the accompaniment were operating. Failure to do so will be considered a Did Not Play or a Breakdown

(as appropriate).


Best Bass and Tenor Section terminology clarification


The name of the award for "Best Bass" be changed to "Best Bass and Tenor Section", and that it shall be awarded to the top Bass and Tenor Section in the grade.


Drummer of the day


PPBSO split the "Drummer of the Day" prizes into the following award categories:

- Amateur Snare Drummer of the Day

- Professional Snare Drummer of the Day

- Amateur Tenor Drummer of the Day

- Professional Tenor Drummer of the Day

- Amateur Bass Drummer of the Day

- Professional Bass Drummer of the Day
